On August 10, 2024, after enjoying the Unicorn Overlord collaboration cafe and visiting the Persona 5 pilgrimage sites, I headed to Shibuya to seeThe Great Touhou Project Exhibition 2024.
Around this time last year, in August 2023, I also visited The Great Touhou Project Exhibition. If you're interested, you can check out last year'sThe Great Touhou Project Exhibition 2023.
So, what does the 2024 exhibition have in store? Let's take a look!
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Imperishable Night, so the exhibition is centered around it. First, let me introduce Imperishable Night!
Imperishable Night ~ Imperishable Night. is a bullet hell shooting game developed by the doujin circle Team Shanghai Alice, and it is the eighth installment in the Touhou Project series. The game was first released on August 15, 2004, at Comic Market 66.
The story is based on The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, and follows humans and youkai as they embark on an adventure to prevent the eternal night. Players can choose from four different character pairs, each consisting of one human and one youkai. A unique system in the game is the "Spirit Gauge" system, which allows players to switch between human and youkai characters for different gameplay experiences.
The goal is to resolve the incident before the night ends, or else a bad ending awaits. Additionally, the game introduces the concepts of "Time Cards" and "Time," requiring players to complete tasks within a set time.

The main visual of this exhibition.

Upon entering the exhibition area, the first thing you see are giant cushions of Reimu and Marisa. They look so cute!
These cushions are available for purchase at the official store. As for the price...

27,500 yen (about 1,344 RMB) each, and that's without the inner cushion!

Reimu's signature move, "Fantasy Seal"!

Next is the character introduction area.

These plushies are really cute, but the official store doesn't seem to sell them.

Peeking through the keyhole reveals various little secrets.
An annual tradition: participants can strike poses to unleash various in-game special moves.

These cosplays are incredibly detailed.

The entire area displays many illustrations, all very detailed. This is just a small portion.
For some reason, the official team added backlight effects to certain illustrations, which feels a bit discriminatory 😅.

The moon in the upper left constantly changes phases, which is very interesting.

Kaguya is really beautiful!

At the exit, there is a life-sized acrylic standee of another main visual from this exhibition.

Compared to last year, the variety of merchandise this year is much richer.

The message wall is always a place for talented artists to show off their skills. Everyone's drawing ability is amazing!
Actually, ZUN's hand-drawn chibi character sketches were also displayed here, but photography was prohibited, which is a pity.

After wandering around and not finding any appealing merchandise, my only loot this time was a special postcard.
