The End of the Pilgrimage: Takehara, the Sacred Site of Tamayura – Part 3

Author: HirokiTime: 2025-10-03 07:01:39Category: Pilgrimage

The next stops on the pilgrimage will be Kodayama Shrine and the School Route. On the way back, we will visit the Roadside Station, and finally take a night stroll through the Takehara Historical Preservation District.

A very secluded but charming little shrine.

The downside is that there are so many mosquitoes; I was chased by them the whole way 😅.

The filming location for the OVA key visual.

You can see that the riverbank has been completely renovated and raised.

On the way back, we were very lucky to see the Tamayura Wrapping Bus connecting Hiroshima and Takehara.

Night Stroll through the Takehara Historical Preservation District

As night fell, this pilgrimage also came to an end.

So, let's see what the historical district looks like at night.

The district at night indeed has a different charm.

The already quiet district became even quieter at night, leaving only the sound of insects.

Shokei-no-michi

Every autumn, Takehara holds the Shokei-no-michi event.

At that time, the entire street is covered with bamboo lanterns, just as depicted in the anime, and it is very beautiful.

This year's Shokei-no-michi will be held on October 25 (Sat) and 26 (Sun), 2025.

I wonder if I will have time to go then.

Conclusion

In the blink of an eye, the day trip to Takehara came to an end.

As a masterpiece that I consider a perfect score, Tamayura has brought me many wonderful memories.

And the pilgrimage to Takehara has sublimated these beautiful memories once again.

Afterwards, when I watched the OP of the work again, the wonderful memories came flooding back.

The happiness born from these beautiful memories is the most precious treasure of this pilgrimage.

Not very good at photography, but simply loving it—that is Fu Sawatari. She moves to a quiet town surrounded by green mountains and the sea on the Seto Inland Sea: Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture. This is where her late father spent his childhood. Here, there are old streets, beautiful sea views, kind residents, and of course, the new friends Fu makes. In the photos Fu takes of her beloved town, she occasionally sees Tamayura—a light that appears when she feels happiness, as if happiness takes a tangible form. These photos always bring a sense of happiness to everyone. This gentle warmth spreads beneath the tiny specks of light representing happiness, creating a dreamlike healing story. Perhaps these are truly ordinary things, but from these small details, one always feels emotions that go beyond the smallness itself—lasting and profound.
